Celebrate your Focus

Focus then Celebrate

Focus and plans
Bride & Dad

Emotion is an amazing element in our makeup, not unlike focus. Weddings and funerals manage to bring out so many emotions and different ways people express them as well as all the different triggers that start the tears or laughter.

I had the privilege of giving my daughters hand in marriage on Saturday, which is a very emotional experience. At 4 pm, walking down the aisle, my baby “Bloss” by my side, watching all our friends, cameras at the ready, busting with pride, a huge lump in my throat,  wanting to well up to shed a tear or two to join the guests and yet enjoying the moment to the fullest even knowing my role today was just beginning.

However, I also had the extraordinary honour of performing the wedding ceremony for them. This is where knowing how and when to focus surfaced.  Years of help from all my mentors and coaches learning what I now believe I can a call my own. The ability to focus 100% on the audience and be totally present to complete the role given to the overwhelming satisfaction of all concerned.

May your Hearts be Joyful and your Spirits be Bright

On behalf of Amy & Niklas, WELCOME….  Welcome to this extraordinary covenant to celebrate the very special Love between Amy and Niklas.

Love is a Drug

All of us desire to love and be loved

Love expands you as an individual, defines you as a couple and deepens your trust, commitment and respect for one another.

Lets also seize this moment to consciously reflect & reaffirm our love and commitment to our partners and ourselves.

Amy & Niklas view their marriage as a coming together at all levels of being – their sharp minds, their able bodies and their free spirits.

You have been invited here to share their joy because of the deep bond you have with Amy & Niklas

Again they welcome you and thank you for your support and your love.

Amy and Niklas have chosen a brief reading.

“Oh the Places You’ll Go”

Congratulations! – Today is your day.

You’re off to great places – you’re off and away!

You have brains in your head and you have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.

You’re on your own and you know what you know

and you are the couple who’ll decide where to go.

You’ll look up and down streets – look them over with care.

About some you’ll say ” We could choose to go there.”

With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet.

You’re too smart to go down any not so good street –

and you may not find any you’ll want to go down.

In that case of course, you’ll head straight out of town.

Out there things happen and frequently do

and when things start to happen, don’t worry. Don’t stew.

Just go right along, You’ll start happening too.

Oh, the places you’ll go!

A touching song by Nina (Niklas Sister)

Focus at its best

Groom Niklas vows ….

This day  “The day of Amy & Niklas” is about Love

Amy & Niklas,  Let your marriage be a time of waking each day and falling in love with each other over and over again.

Friends it is my great pleasure to present to you Mr & Mrs Niklas and Amy Henriksson.

The End

Then we have the “normally” big event where the speeches are given by all those people who are so prepared and as self-conscious as can be. They all have a few sherbets early before the reception and knock a few quick ones back before their turn to speak.  All wrong. It is so much better to refrain from any dutch courage source before you speak, You are so much better as a speaker sober even if you are so nervous.  How much better it is to celebrate your completion and amazing feeling of relief that it is all over, than with a toast.

A confession is that I was totally exhausted at the completion of my duties.  However, very proud and delighted for their happiness and prepared to also celebrate another milestone of achievement for me as well.

focus on the job at hand
The brides ride home

The celebrations went till 4:30am a full on 12+hour wedding. I was long in bed and I believe they were also served 2am hotdogs by the venue.  The last photo is the groom eventually taking his wife to their room in the traditional way. Such a fitting end to an amazing celebration.

Having a coach at these times to help with your focus even when you think you know it, is paramount. Having a ton of experience fine tunes your focus and enables your celebration to have the meaning required.

Celebrate your focus.

  1. Hey Terry. Thanks for the article. I do believe that a sober head will always give best results and clarity.
Every now and again, I have to thank people, as I’ll a rugby coach and it’s required of us to thank the opposition for the game. I also thank the parents, the kitchen staff and the players.
I have to do this sober, as drinking and driving is dicing with death.
I wouldn’t prepare any notes, but i do if Ilm giving a rugby coaching session, just bullet points, an aide memoir as such.
Speaking in public can be both terrifying and exhilarating. More people should be pushed to do it.

    1. Thanks Francis,

So So true. Being grateful is awesome and I am thanking all the time. Cant say I would push people into learning to speak in public but I agree they all need to realise they love and would love to be great at it. We all respect and admire someone who is excellent at public speaking.

  2. Hi, Neat post. There is a problem with your web site in internet explorer, would check this IE still is the market leader and a large portion of people will miss your magnificent writing because of this problem. ggefbfaeabaggded

    1. Thanks for your comment. Looks like you are into wedding planning . any referrals of people having to give speeches and needing help will be appreciated. send me more info about your site for the next post I do on weddings.

    1. Good day! I just would like to give a huge thumbs up for the great info yo7;182#u&ve gotten right here on this post. I will be coming again to your blog for more soon.

    2. Thanks great quote. EH is a gem. I look for the action from those I coach as well. If no immediate action I need to take action to get action so the public speaker takes action to get moving on their path.
